OVERVIEW
Guided by the women of Granada, a Maya community 5 km from Maxcanú, discover the natural, cultural and historical richness of their land. Walk through a family garden and learn how vegetables are grown, from preparing the soil to the harvest, and pick tomatoes, radishes and the famous habanero chile with your own hands. At the meliponary, learn why the Maya held the honey of the stingless Melipona bee sacred for its healing properties, and taste honey and pollen straight from the hives. Then make tortillas by hand, help unearth a traditional Yucatecan dish slow-cooked in the pib (underground oven), and share it at the table with a starter, dessert and seasonal fresh water.
